After making 500 Km with my beloved P25s, I had to retire them and substitute them for a brand new pair of customized P28s.  I bought them trough nikeId´s site and I was able to customize all the colors, it was lots of fun.  I am very happy, their fitting is awesome.  I am back in business running like a beast in style!  My P25´s are now enjoying a bettter and more relaxed life, I use them as casual shoes.

A post about the development process of the DLUX model I designed while at Catlike, these are high end sunglasses targeted for proffesional and advanced riders, they were developed in collaboration with the Cervelo Test Team.  Their frame geometry, light yet sturdy, ensures a perfect fit, keeping them in a fixed position while riding through the pavée or the wildest trails. The frame comes with an adaptable nose bridge which can be easily adjusted to the riders nose.  They come with a range of Grade-A european made lens with great specs and technologies such as: polarized, smudge-proof and hydrophobic finishes among others.  Special attention was put into the finishing and details, to ensure that the lenses will still look like new through time.  Bi-material injection was used for all the rubber parts.

The Gladi8R helmet is featured in Plaisirs De Vivre magazine (May 2011 issue) on an article about the future of cycling equipment, the article reviews several cool products, concepts and prototypes from different companies and designers.  It would be great to see all of them go into production! When landing on the back of your head in a crash, helmets have a tendency to tilt and move forward towards the forehead area, leaving the back of your head exposed.  This device, together with the straps, keeps the helmet in place at all times.

This retention was designed for Catlike´s t high-end helmets range, its design ensures a perfect fit & performance under any circumstances.  It was designed from scrap with 3 goals in mind: comfort, lightness and reliability.

The retention is extremely simple to prevent mechanical issues, it is formed by just 3 parts, less parts means less problems, you could almost say this retention is bullet proof.

This is how it works: a central piece with a rail stays in a fixed position at the back of the head while 2 side pieces move along the rail to tighten or loosen the retention.  Bi-injection has been used to provide a confortable material for the parts in contact with the head as well as for the finger areas to make it easy for the rider to recognize in which point they must press to trigger the mechanism.

This is the 2011 Wheel retention model for Catlike.  The goal was to design a new retention with better performance, we simplified its structure to reduce weight and simplify its assembly.

Conceptual study for a hybrid helmet/sun-glasses, it is a 21st century version of a gladiator´s helmet.  It is ment to be used as a performance sport device or as a trendy fashion item.  The frame would be injected in plastic.

This design so far, has been the one that has created more media hype, it has been posted in several blogs such as treehugger, yanko design, design boom, etc….I was once aproached by the NASA as they where interested in using this design to conduct a research, how cool is that??!!!!It didnt go through but it gave me a huge ego boost!

Toy based on the ancient Chinese pulse, a range of 40 characters where designed around the latin-american culture.  Each mask is customizable by a set of stickers, once you dress the mask with your prefered stickers you are ready to play! There are 4 families of fighters: Chamanes, Bandidos, Predators and Terremotos. each family is formed by 10 characters, this means I had to design 40 diferent characters/sets of stickers.  The masks are ergonomicly designed to be able to fit different finger sizes.  A TV commercial was made for the launch of the Thumbfighterz wich can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEKB8QkUevk

Based on the original Ipod Shuffle this product, this low-cost mp3 player was designed for kids. We incorporated a range of characters to it to make it friendly and funny. There are several characters to choose from and they are all exchangeable.

Hardshell carbon backpack designed for sport activities.  I did this project on my Product Design 3 class, Its ergonomic design protects the user´s back in case of a crash.  It also protects the goods inside thanks to its strength and interior layout that is designed like a camera bag: you can configure the fitting of each compartment with movable velcro padded walls. The doors have a clear window that allows you to see the interior, they were designed for easy acccess so you dont need to remove the backpack frm your back to get stuff out of it.

For the final presentation, I decided to make a full-working prototype, I started with a block of yellow foam and shaped it until I got the desired appearance and volume.  I layered the fiber-glass and the carbon fiber right on top of it and it was a tricky process because I didnt want to paint the CF, I wanted to show the fiber pattern, so it had to be perfectly layered and finished.  Once cured, I cut out the access holes and carved out the yellow foam from the interior.  My classmate York Bleyer a.k.a Crazy German, helped me clear-coating the shell.  I remember that right when we were spraying the clear-coat at the paint booth, a junior student opened the door and dust came in, we almost killed him…

Another big thing was building the doors, I made an original piece using renshape and used the RTV silicon I got at Douglass & Sturgess to make a mold and 4 duplicates, for the clear windows in each of them, I vacuum formed clear acrylic sheets.  Once finished and assembled, the back pack looked great.

Of all my school projects, I think this is the one I enjoyed the most.
